The appointee will assist in a cross-institution project sponsored by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, seeking to promote holistic development of non-Chinese speaking (NCS) children through culturally responsive practices in local kindergartens. EdUHK will focus on building the capacity of educators, teaching assistants, and school leaders, empowering them to help NCS children learn more effectively in school and at home.
The appointee will design and produce lesson plans and teaching materials that can promote the language skills and socioemotional competence of both NCS and Chinese-speaking children. Moreover, the appointee will provide on-site support to teachers, familiarizing them with the lesson plans and keeping them updated on culturally responsive practices. The appointee will also advise schools on corner design and classroom arrangement, supporting children through play and self-exploratory activities. The appointment period can be up to 2 years, depending on the appointee’s qualifications and experience.
Applicants should have a Bachelor’s Degree in early childhood education as well as the qualified teacher status in kindergartens, plus several years of post-qualification work experience in teaching young children in Hong Kong. Moreover, applicants should be familiar with modern early education methods, such as learning through play and child-centered teaching. Applicants should also be collaborative, detail-oriented, self-motivated, and able to work under pressure. Experience of teaching NCS children and working with NCS families, and good interpersonal and organizational skills are advantages.
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract. Fringe benefits include contract-end gratuity, leave, medical and dental benefits.
